Market Analysis for Small business
  • - Chong Ku Hyun (Yonsei University)
[Abstract]
A study of small and medium-sized company should solve conceptual and definitional problems. As Peter Bauer pointed out in terms of the "widening gap" between rich and poor countries, that "successful" small companies will soon leave the category and join the "large-company" group. Furthermore, the absolute size of a company is just one of many measures that group the companies. In order to add positive studies of small companies, it is necessary to distinguish different types of small companies.
There are at least three qualitative ways to characterize small companies:
(1) separation of one's ownership and control, (2) geographical area of one's operation, and (3) one's market share. In view of observed characteristics of Korean companies, it is asserted that the third standard, i.e. company's market share, is suitable for the analysis. In other words, a "small" company is difined as the low-market-share company. This paper aims to suggest some strategic concepts useful in designing marketing strategies for a low-market-share company. ... (ÀÌÇÏ »ý·«)
I.ELECTRICAL MACHINERY AND APPLIANCES
  • - Min Beoung Yun (Development Bank)
[Abstract]
Total ouptut of electrical machinery and appliances has recorded an average growth of 35.8 percent during the past decade on the current price basis. The industry growth was led by the remarkable expansion of exports which have grown at a rate of 60.6 percent each year, as a result of which the share of exports rose to 27.4 percent during the same period.
By product, the growth has been most conspicuous in the home-use electrical appliances which benefitted from the plentiful and excellent labor forces of our country. This reflects the basic characteristics of the industry as a labor-intensive one on the one hand, and the gradual, though limited, concession of the industry, on the other, to NICs(including Korea) from the industrialized nations which are losing out their competitive edges. ... Some Coutermeasures to Intensefy International Competiti veness for the Small & Medium Textile Industry.
  • - Kim Yong Ki (The Daegu Bank Ltd)
[Abstract]
There is no denying the fact that the textile industry has been playing an important role as a leading national industry in Korean just as it did in other developing countries this is partly because it does not require a large amount of investment in its early stage, partly because it is one of the labor intensive industries.
Moreover, the textile industry's annual average grown rate(1962-1975. 3rd consecutive economic development plan period)revealed a record-breaking 24.6% increase, while that of all manufacturing industries showed an increase of 20.8%. It is no exaggeration to say that it has taken the initiative of export expansion. The total amount of textile goods exported in 1978 reached US$3,982, million, and it formed 34.8% annually of total export amount from 1970 to 1978. ... (ÀÌÇÏ »ý·«)
A Study on the Competiton for Small and Medium Metal-Working Machine Manufactures
  • - Choi Dong Kyu (Korea Productivity Center)
[Abstract]
Metal-working machine manufacture, which includes the characteristics of precision and durability, plays an important role in the development of general machine industry.
Because its development exerts a great effect on the improvement of general technology and productivity in machine industry.
Also the development of metal-working machine manufacture is indispensable for the development of heavy industry.
Small and medium business in such metal-working manufacture includes several important problems to solve as follows;
(1) The comparative disadvantage of technology and equipment
(2) The low quality and high purchasing price of raw materials
(3) The relatively high wage to productivity
(4) The small effect of the economies of scale ... (ÀÌÇÏ »ý·«)
