| To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the Korean Association of Small Business Studies, this study reviewed research papers on the subject of entrepreneurship in the Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business. For 40 years, the subjects of entrepreneurship-related studies published in this journal were relatively limited and the number of articles was very few. The research papers mainly focus on defining entrepreneurship as an innovation or as a determinant of innovation and survey-based empirical studies have been conducted since the publication of the Entrepreneurial Orientation(EO) by Lumpkin and Dess(1996). Although entrepreneurship is a research field that can be approached from various perspectives such as economics, sociology, psychology, cultural anthropology, and organization theory, most of the papers published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business do not clearly state their theoretical positions or viewpoints. Moreover, there are few studies that incorporate corporate entrepreneurs or startup teams although they have been major actors or entrepreneurship. Lastly, innovation has been the main focus of research, leaving other arenas such as opportunity recognition and discovery understudied. In order to increase the quantity and improve the quality in the entrepreneurship research, we need to have the entrepreneurship field as one academic section in the Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business. |

| The purposes of this study are to summarize the past studies on human resource management (HRM) published in Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business and to propose the future research directions. This study ed 33 HRM papers (3.1 % of all published papers) and classified them depending three yardsticks. First, this study investigated the frequency and the trend of each year and, as a result, it demonstrated the variations in published papers depending on the publication year. Next, on the basis of the research theme, this study divided 33 papers into two parts; a general HRM vs. a specific HRM practice. The result showed that most studies focused on the specific HRM practice. Lastly, with regard to methodology, this study classified them into a conceptual paper, a case-study, and empirical research, and the result showed that most studies are empirical-based papers. Based on the trends, this study proposed three issues in terms of the number of research, research theme, and methodology, and suggested future research directions for HRM in small-medium enterprises. |

| The main purpose of this study is to analyze research trend of ‘business failure’ from academic papers published in Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business. In this review, first, we reviewed research trend of failure, published in academic journals at abroad, explored the major topics, and set forth the framework of classification. Second, we ed and analyzed 16 Korean articles in a refined search from total 1,060 articles published in Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business from 1979 to 2019. Third, in order to understand overall research trend in Korea, additional publication search was done by online database system using keywords, and 24 other articles were ed. As a result, five research themes were identified and analyzed: (1) bankruptcy prediction, (2) emotion before and after failure, (3) costs of failure, (4) causes of failure, and (5) reentry determinants. We believe that this purposed review will offer future research issues regarding business failure. |

| In commemoration of 40 years of the foundation of the Korean Association of Small Business Studies, this paper reviewed the academic literature investigating female entrepreneurship and women-owned businesses in the Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business. During past 40 years, only 10 studies shed light on women entrepreneurship/businesses. Since the number of research papers is very few, this paper reviewed foreign research trends based on the topics in accordance with the stages of entrepreneurship. Based on the reviews, this paper aims to suggest important topics and directions for future research and to draw attention to female entrepreneurship/enterprises in Korean academia. |

| Marking the 40th anniversary of the founding of The Korean Association of Small Business Studies, this paper was carried out to shed light on the historical trend of 40 years of small and medium business research through the papers published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business and to consider the direction of future small and medium business research. In particular, we will focus on small and medium venture business policies and strategic management aspects of small and medium venture businesses to analyze the contents of published papers related to the subject and contribute to finding implications and future research directions. In order to analyze the research trends of small and medium venture business policies and strategic management sectors of small and medium venture companies covered in the Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business from 1979 to 2019, the analysis was divided by time and item based on research subjects, research methods, researchers, etc., and the primary analysis results are as follows: First, out of a total of 1,056 research papers, research papers on small and medium venture enterprise policy and strategic management showed a ratio of about 14% and 11% of the total research. Second, in terms of research subjects, the proportion of policy research on funds and start-ups and ventures was high in the field of small and medium venture enterprise policy, and the research on internationalization strategy was carried out the most in the area of strategic management. Third, qualitative research was more prominent until the 1980s, but the proportion of quantitative research began to increase after the 1990s, and since then, quantitative research has been carried out more than qualitative research. Fourth, over the past 40 years, Hanyang University, Kyungpook National University, Konkuk University, etc. were the institutions that presented research papers most actively in the areas of small and medium venture business policy and strategic management, and the research institute's participation was somewhat insufficient. The main implications of this study for the continuous development of the Asia Pacific Journal of Small Business are as follows. First, it is necessary to enhance the link between research on policy research and strategic management of small and medium venture companies in terms of research subject matter. Second, more diversity should be pursued in terms of research methods. Third, it is necessary to increase the participation rate of public and private research institutes related to small and medium venture enterprises in academic societies. |

| This study attempt to use secondary data from KIS-Value to understand how rapid globalization strategy affects BGF’s performance defined five categories such as sales volume, return on investment, net profit per employee, increase in sales, and increase in net profit per employee. In particular, this research defines the BGF based on the export ratio within five years after the establishment and classifies BGF into three levels according to 25%, 50%, and 75% concentration of exports. The main results of this study were first, the rapid internationalization strategy was proven to have a sales effect in the short and long term, and in particular, the short term effect was more significantly compared to the long term effect. However, the impact on the return on investment(ROI) of BGF was found that the more stringent the BGF level, the more short-term effect on ROI, but the longer-term effect was diluted according to time. Third, the sales growth rate is significant in the short-term depending on the BGF level, but do not have long-term effects same as ROI. On the other hand, the growth rate of net profit has shown that the BGF strategy has a negative (-) effect over the long term. In particular, the higher the BGF level, the greater the negative impact on the increase in net profit. |

| This study shows that it is favorable for Korean companies to maintain fairness and authenticity trading relationship with trading companies. It suggests that a positive reputation can be secured, trust relationships can be built, and transaction costs can be reduced. For this purpose, research hypothesis was established, questionnaires were collected for domestic companies, and a hypothesis test was conducted. As a result of the research hypothesis test, the perception of transaction fairness and the perception of transaction authenticity have a positive effect on reputation, and the reputation has a positive effect on trust. Trust has a positive effect on the reduction of transaction costs, and reputation and trust play a role in the perception of transaction fairness and transaction authenticity and the reduction of transaction cost, and trust is a parameter between reputation and reduction in transaction cost. Do it. In order for sustainable management activities to be carried out for Korean companies, it is necessary to improve fairness and authenticity in business relations. It is important to have a positive reputation. It has been demonstrated that securing a positive reputation can develop into a trust relationship and ultimately lead to a decrease in transaction costs. |

| This study analyzes the effects of KOSDAQ-listed firms’ convertible bonds, which have recently increased rapidly in number and size. Although KOSDAQ companies are called mid-size companies, KOSDAQ companies belong to SMEs. Furthermore, convertible bonds have traditionally been a critical capital raising tool for SMEs in the US and Europe. In Korea, KOSDAQ companies actively employ convertible bonds. Convertible bonds provide investment incentives for hesitant investors, allowing companies to raise capital at low interest rates. This study analyzes whether capital raising through issuance of convertible bonds by KOSDAQ companies affects their financial constraints. Financial constraints result from incomplete capital markets, which are embedded in most companies and countries.. In particular, financial constraints have a significant impact on the growth and survival of SMEs. The seminal study FHP(1988) is the most important and effective study of firm’s financial constraints. We find that FHP's financial constraint measures show that convertible bond issuance would mitigate the financial constraints of KOSDAQ companies. However, the significance of the evidence is not strong. |

| In this study, we examined the effects of major shareholder's holdings and foreign shareholder's holdings on capital structure with the samples of listed non-financial firms in KOSPI and KOSDAQ. More specifically, we conduct the data on 7,074 large firms and 2,394 SMEs(Small-Medium Enterprises) before and after the adoption of K-IFRS from 2002 to 2019. The main results can be summarized as follows. The results indicate that the adoption of K-IFRS affects the capital structure of large firms more than SMEs. The major shareholder's holdings and the foreign shareholder's holdings of the large and SMEs listed on the KOSPI and the KOSDAQ market have a significant effect on the leverage ratio. It can be seen that major shareholders of large firms and SMEs reduce the leverage ratio by recognizing the use of debt as financial risk. In addition, it can be seen that regardless of whether or not K-IFRS is adopted, foreign shareholders recognize the use of debt as financial risk and reduce the leverage ratio in order to reduce the investment risk. |

| The purpose of this study is to research the effects of desire for independence, possibility of start-up success and employment stability to the push-entrepreneurship through the push-entrepreneurship by a survey of employees in the middle age. The purpose of the creating start-up environment was encouraged the qualitative expansion of opportunity-driven start-up rather than the quantitative expansion of necessity-driven start-up for the economic growth and expanding employment. In spit of the employees had their own careers, skills, opportunities and market-experiences, In reality it is necessity-driven start-up that the quantitative expansion. The purpose of this study was to reflect process change by desire for independence, push-entrepreneurship and pull-entrepreneurship based on the possibility of start-up success and employment stability perceived by individual founders, changed process factor rather than the fixed result factor. The results are as follows. First, it was found that desire for independence makes a positive (+) effect on the pull-entrepreneurship and the push-entrepreneurship. Second, it was found that the possibility of start-up success makes a positive (+) effect on the pull-entrepreneurship and not effect on push-entrepreneurship. third, it was found that the employment stability makes a positive (+) effect on the pull-entrepreneurship and not effect on the push-entrepreneurship. Forth, it was found that desire for independence makes a positive (+) effect onthe pull-entrepreneurship and mediating negative (-) effect on the push-entrepreneurship. The implication of this study was that potential entrepreneurs with desire for independence , rather than necessity-driven start-up due to unemployment, could be developed as pull-entrepreneurship improved the situation of push-entrepreneurship. In addition, it seems that entrepreneurship education and activation of entrepreneurship programs for employee with desire for independence expand opportunity-driven start-up after retirement. |

| The 4th Industrial Revolution is rapidly changing the business environment and enterprises are required to accelerate various innovative activities for sustainable competitiveness. Recently corporate entrepreneurship is widely spread to organization for establishing innovative corporate culture and stimulating corporate ventures. However, many enterprises are not successful and productive due to lack of readiness of corporate entrepreneruship. Therefore, finding the factors influencing corporate entreprensurship, innovative activities and business performance is a very important research issues. A research model and hypothesis are developed by through literature review to analyze positive effects of corporate entrepreneurship to corporate performance and influential effects of factors such as innovation-based efforts at the organizational level, vision and organizational strategies and innovative operating system to corporate entrepreneurship and business performance. The result of Entrepreneurship Survey with Corporates conducted by Korea Entrepreneurship Foundation in 2017 is used for the research sample. Hypothesis test used 1,326 samples and the structural equation modeling is applied. The results show that corporate entrepreneurship improves innovative idea activity performance and business performance. And, establishing innovative vision and strategies and innovative organizational culture enhances corporate entrepreneurship. In addition, it was confirmed that the innovative operational system has a moderating effect that strengthens the positive influence relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and innovative idea performance. The results of this study have implications for previous research on corporate entrepreneurship in Korea by presenting the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and business performance and the multilateral relationships between innovative organizational structure and corporate entrepreneurship. |

| The purpose of this study is to present implications for revitalizing start-ups and contribute to enhancing the success rate of start-ups by clarifying factors and processes for converting workers with knowledge, experience and networks in related fields into entrepreneur. Based on the Shapero‘s Entrepreneurial Event Model, this study demonstrated whether the job insecurity and entrepreneurship of the workers were precipitating events of the entrepreneurial intention and whether the perceived desirability and feasibility of the entrepreneurial behaviour mediated between them. According to the results of the study, first, it was confirmed that job insecurity, innovativeness, and risk-taking of workers are factors that increase the entrepreneurial intention. Second, the indirect effect of perceived desirability between all components of job insecurity and entrepreneurial intentions was not significant, but all components of entrepreneurship appeared to improve entrepreneurial intention through perceived desirability. Third, it has been confirmed that job insecurity, innovativeness, and risk-taking strengthen the entrepreneurial intention through the perception of feasibility for entrepreneurial behavior. Through this study, it is confirmed that in order to convert workers into entrepreneur, it is necessary to strengthen entrepreneurship education and support for internal ventures for workers to increase their positive attitude and confidence in implementation. Therefore, it is expected to help solve job problems and revive the sluggish economy by contributing to boosting start-ups. |
